Lesson 5
Hi again and well done! You have reached the fifth and final lesson of the Salsa Cantante beginners moves. By the end of this lesson you will have learned all the basic steps that you can practise with the CANTANTE and will be ready to take on the next challenge by trying some intermediate moves.
Havana
For this move you will have to remember candado and setenta from lesson 2. A new element in this move is the gancho where the leader brings their elbow behind the follower’s shoulder.
Tip: Mind the elbows.
Lasso
This starts similar to a candado but then leads the follower into a turn…
Tip: Leaders, make sure to stop the follower in front of you in the beginning instead of continuing into a candado. E.g. briefly stop them with your left hand on their left shoulder before you give them the impulse to turn.
Setenta y uno & Setenta y dos
These are setentas with one or two ganchos added at the end to jazz up the moves a bit.
That's it, you've learned 20 moves in only 5 lessons! Make sure to practise them regularly with the CANTANTE so that you remember them. Have fun on the dance floor!
